Known today as Drewseph and to some longtime listeners through earlier releases under the name Drewisaboss this Chicago-born artist represents a generation of creatives who are learning in real time, pushing past fear, and carving their own lane without asking for permission. Drewseph’s story isn’t one of overnight success or childhood certainty. It’s a story about proving yourself wrong, trusting instinct, and allowing growth to happen
naturally.
WHERE IT ALL STARTED: 7TH GRADE AND A CHANGE OF MINDSET
Drewseph didn’t grow up believing he was meant to be a rapper. In fact, for a long time, he actively avoided the idea. Rap felt like something other people could do just not him. That belief stayed with him until 7th grade, when he and his homies started rapping together. What began as friends experimenting quickly became something more personal.
There was a moment where curiosity turned into challenge. Instead of backing away from something he thought he wasn’t good at, Drewseph leaned in. He wanted to prove himself wrong. That mindset testing limits instead of accepting them became the foundation of his entire artistic journey.
As time passed, he realized something important: not only could he rap, but he actually enjoyed it. More than that, he saw potential. That realization sparked a deeper ambition to push himself further and see how far his talent, work ethic, and creativity could really take him.
MUSIC AS A WAY OF LIFE, NOT JUST A DREAM
For Drewseph, music isn’t just something he does it’s something he lives with. His ultimate goal has always been to live off what he loves, and rap is a major part of that vision. It’s one of many talents he carries, but it’s the one that allows him to express his thoughts, emotions, and experiences most honestly.
Rather than chasing trends or trying to fit into a specific box, Drewseph focuses on growth. Every song, every project, every experiment is another step toward becoming the best version of himself as an artist.
A SOUND THAT LIVES IN THE FUTURE CONSCIOUS TRAP WITH DEPTH
Drewseph’s music stands out because it doesn’t feel forced. His sound is unique, futuristic, and witty, often described as conscious trap. It blends sharp awareness with modern trap energy, creating something that feels thoughtful without losing its edge.
His music isn’t made just for surface-level enjoyment it’s meant to stick. Whether it’s the way he approaches flows, the tones he chooses, or the themes he explores, there’s a sense that his work is always looking forward while staying grounded in reality.
CHICAGO ROOTS AND REAL EXPERIENCES
Growing up in Chicago, Drewseph has seen and experienced a lot. The city’s environment plays a major role in shaping his perspective and his pen. There’s always something happening good, bad, chaotic, inspiring and all of it feeds into his music.
He doesn’t rap about imaginary lifestyles or exaggerated personas. He raps about what he sees, what he knows, and what he’s lived. His songs reflect personal experiences as well as situations that happen every day around him. That authenticity is what gives his music weight it feels real because it is real.
HOW HE CREATES: FEELINGS FIRST, RULES LAST
Drewseph’s creative process is driven almost entirely by emotion. He chooses beats based on how he feels in the moment, letting his mood guide the direction of the song. If something heavy is on his mind, he’ll take time to write it out. But most of the time, he prefers to punch in.
To him, music sounds best when it comes straight from the source from the brain directly to the mic. When he’s feeling something deeply, stopping to overthink can dilute the emotion. Capturing it in real time keeps the energy raw and honest.
This approach allows his music to feel natural, unfiltered, and alive like a snapshot of a moment rather than a polished performance.
COLLABORATION, ENERGY, AND CHEMISTRY
While Drewseph often works alone, he’s intentionally opening himself up more to collaboration. That said, collaboration isn’t something he takes lightly. Before making music with someone, he wants to understand who they really are as a person.
For him, the best collaborations happen when artists respect each other’s individuality. Each artist should bring their own sound, make the song their own, and still complement each other. The goal isn’t to blend into one voice it’s to create balance while allowing everyone involved to shine.
INFLUENCES THAT SHAPED THE VISION
Drewseph’s influences reflect his wide creative range. Artists like Chief Keef and Lil Herb (GHerbo) connect him to Chicago’s raw energy. Future influences his emotional honesty and melodic instincts. Chance the Rapper and Kanye West inspire creativity and fearlessness, while Earl Sweatshirt contributes to his appreciation for introspection and abstract thinking.
These influences don’t define him they inform him. Drewseph takes pieces from each and transforms them into something distinctly his own.
“NEBULA”: EXPERIMENTATION AND SONIC EXPLORATION
His most recent EP, Nebula, marks an important chapter in his evolution. Described as outer space trap, the project was about experimentation, freedom, and fun. It’s a collaborative effort with producer Corzit, and together they crafted a sound that felt fresh and unconventional.
Nebula wasn’t about chasing perfection it was about discovery. Still, the process came with challenges. One of the hardest parts was arranging the project and deciding which songs deserved a place on the final tracklist. Knowing what to leave out is just as
important as knowing what to keep.
Among all the tracks, “Daydream” stands out as the most meaningful to Drewseph. The song captures pure, raw emotion exactly how he felt at that time in his life. There’s no filter, no performance just honesty.
STORYTELLING, PERSPECTIVE, AND GROWTH
Drewseph is deeply interested in storytelling. His music doesn’t just show what happened it explores how things play out and how they could play out. He wants listeners to think, reflect, and gain perspective.
Lately, he’s been thinking more about different scenarios and the outcomes of past situations. Those reflections shape how he moves forward, both in life and in music.
MISCONCEPTIONS, CRITICISM, AND TOUGH SKIN
One of the biggest misconceptions Drewseph sees is the idea that artists aren’t human. As artists grow, people expect perfection and forget the person behind the work. On a local level, many don’t understand the amount of time, sacrifice, and consistency required to build something from nothing.
Drewseph has developed tough skin. He welcomes constructive criticism, listens carefully, and tries to understand different perspectives. Growth comes from awareness, not defensiveness.
DIY MENTALITY AND HONORABLE LEGENDS
Drewseph is very hands-on with his art. He does most of his own video editing, embracing a DIY mentality that gives him full creative control. This independence allows him to move freely and stay true to his vision.
He’s also supported by his homies in the collective known as Honorable Legends a group built on trust, shared ambition, and mutual respect.
BALANCING ART AND SURVIVAL
Drewseph understands the reality of being an artist. If you can’t make money from your art yet, you still have to live. That means finding ways to support yourself while protecting time and energy for creativity. Right now, he’s focused on merging life and art until music can fully sustain him.
THE FUTURE: CREATIVITY OVER CONFORMITY
Looking ahead, Drewseph is locked in. He’s releasing more singles and actively working on another project with Corzit, continuing to develop their shared sound.
Over the next five years, his mission is clear:
to prove that creativity can take you far, and that you don’t have to sound like anyone else to make it.
His message to other artists is simple but powerful:
Don’t be scared to try something different from what’s considered normal.Drewseph is living proof that self-belief can be built, talent can be discovered, and originality still matters
At this point it is safe to say he is one of the talented stars to look out for. Check out his
